SOUNDING SOCIETY -- YOUR WALLET
===============================

This folder shows you your wallet. That is all it does.

TO USE IT
---------

  1. Plug your wallet into this computer with a USB cable that carries DATA.
A charge-only cable lights the board up and the computer never sees it.
A blue USB-3 cable always carries data.

  2. Double-click "START HERE.html". That is the whole thing.

(The .command in this folder is for later. See the bottom of this file:
it is how you open your wallet if this website ever goes away.)

  3. Chrome opens. Press CONNECT, and pick your board from the little list
     the browser shows you.

The browser asks you to pick it, once, on purpose: a web page is never
allowed to go looking through your ports by itself. After that it
reconnects on its own.

ABOUT THAT BLACK TERMINAL WINDOW
--------------------------------

A terminal window opens and sits there. It looks alarming and it is not.

It is running a tiny web server ON YOUR OWN COMPUTER, so that your browser
has an address to open. That is its whole job.

  - It serves the files in THIS FOLDER and nothing outside it. It cannot
reach the rest of your computer.
  - It listens on 127.0.0.1, which means your own computer and nothing else.
No one on your wifi can reach it. Nothing on the internet can reach it.
  - It never connects to the internet. Not once. Not to us either.
  - It never reads your sixteen words. It does not know them.

You can read the whole thing: open the file called "wallet" in any text
editor. It is about a hundred lines and most of them are explanation.

Closing the terminal does NOT disconnect your wallet -- your browser is the
one talking to the board. But if you then RELOAD the page it will go blank,
because the little server is gone. Just double-click again.

IF YOUR MAC SAYS WE MIGHT BE MALWARE
------------------------------------

It will, the first time. "Apple could not verify 'Run it from my own disk.command' is
free of malware." Nothing is wrong and you have done nothing wrong: macOS says
that about every file downloaded from anyone who has not paid Apple to vouch
for them, and we have not, because doing so would mean putting a name and a
company on file with Apple. There is deliberately no name on this.

Right-click "Run it from my own disk.command" -> Open -> Open.

If your Mac is new enough that right-click does not offer it, go to
System Settings -> Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom, and click
"Open Anyway" next to the message. Then double-click again.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO ANY OF THIS. The same page is on the web at
https://soundingsociety.org/wallet/ -- it talks to your board exactly the same
way, downloads nothing, and installs nothing. This folder exists for people who
would rather own their copy than load ours.

CHROME OR EDGE. NOT SAFARI.
---------------------------

Safari and Firefox cannot talk to a USB board at all. The page will open and
simply do nothing, and it will not tell you why. Use Chrome, Edge, Brave or
Chromium. The launcher looks for one and says so if it cannot find any.

WHERE YOUR MONEY ACTUALLY IS
----------------------------

On the board. Your balance is on the wallet itself and the page reads it
straight off. This folder stores nothing and remembers nothing.

So: you can delete this whole folder whenever you like and download it
again. Your money is not in here. Your wallet is not in here.

What you must NEVER lose is your sixteen words, on paper. They are not in
this folder either, and nothing here will ever ask you for them.

THAT IS EVERYTHING
------------------

You do not need a bookkeeper. You do not need an account. There is nobody to
sign up with. Plug it in, open it, look at it.
